Tires Shedding Rubber
Has anyone here ever had a tire shed tiny bits of rubber over a period of time? When I bought my Coda last month,I found that every time I rode it,I wound up with black specks on my seattube/stays and my shins. I noticed rubber coming off the tires from a mold line running down the center of the tread,so I just peeled them off. Now I've got about 150 miles or so on the tires, and the mold lines are barely visible, but I'm still getting spattered with black specks. It has to be the tires because the brake pads aren't showing any appreciable wear. What really chaps me is that I'm running a set of full fenders.
They're Hutchison Flashes, but I haven't had any probs with the ones that came on my Cannondale. I also haven't had this happen to any of my other bikes. Anyone got any ideas? Could it be that I just got a bad set of tires? Should I look into replacing them? TIA.

Nah. I don't have this prob when riding other bikes on the same route. The chain doesn't have that much lube on it,plus I'm getting stuff on my forks.

How is your inflation? I could see this if the tires were flexing a lot due to overloading or underinflation.

MacG: Tires get inflated to 90psi(what the sidewall says) every Mon/Wed/Fri.
Ricardo: They're the ones that came on the bike. It's a street bike,so I hope they're road tires.

I vote that they're bum tires... a bad batch from the manufacturer. If you really want to be sure that it's not some other part of your bike creating black spary, try swapping with the tires from your cannondale. If you decide it's the tires for sure, maybe you could get the dealer to replace them, since your Coda is new, or just buy new tires.

You say you have fenders-Check and make sure the fender braces aren't rubbing the tire-Even just a little will result in very small shavings and you won't feel the drag-

schang: Cannondale's are 23's,Coda's are 28's. I really don't want to go thinner.
bobn: fenders are good.
I need to take the bike in next week for tune-up/tweaking,I'll talk to the dealer about it then.
