Badly creaking Deda Black Tail carbon seat-stays

I'm trying out one of these Ciocc Challengers (2nd hand) with a carbon Deda wishbone seat-stay (it has alu chain-stays), and it's creaking and crackling like crazy!!! I only rode it 1 mile then came straight home.

The bolts on the drop-outs are way tight.

Before I take it back (I haven't paid anything for it),
does such creaking mean the frame is knackered?

Ah. The joys of mixed materials in frame construction. Every joint is another potential failure point.

I would worry that one or more of the carbon-aluminum bonded joints is failing. If you are "trying out" the bike but haven't purchased it yet, go over EVERY item on it to find the source of the noise before you spend a cent. It may be something innocuous but be absolutely sure. If it's the frame, run, don't walk, away.

Thanks.

Ah well, I dare I'll be taking it back tomorrow and tell them they got ripped off.

I'm using all my components, and I'm pretty sure it's the rear end of the frame because I can make it creak just by pushing the BB back and forth with my hand!!

and it doesn't just creak a little, it creaks 2 or 3 clicks on one down-stroke then 2 or 3 on the other down-stroke!!

bummer
