Double Crank, Triple Shifter

I posted this in the General Cycling forum and I was directed here. I have a new Specialized Sirrus Elite with a double crank, but the front shifter has the 3 stops. How should the FD be adjusted? Should the middle stop be a trim-stop for the small ring? Any ideas?

Right now I have it set so that the middle stop is the lower chainring and the 3rd stop is the upper chainring. The first stop does nothing but slack the cable because the FD is already on the lower-limit screw when the shifter is in the middle.

Any help is much appreciaited. Thanks.

Exactly what shifters do you have?? In general, the granny and middle ring positions in a triple shifter are used for the small and big ring of a double crank. Depending on the shifter, you may or may not have trim for both rings.
