I'm not one to be afraid of the riding on the roads, the this is makiing me think. I try not to ride where there is a lot of traiffic, but it is unavoidable to be on the road with some cars.

Maybe a poster from the Denver area can find the funeral home announcment on the internet so we can post messages in the guestbook.

Unfortunately, it has taken a death of one of our members to bring me out of lurking mode...

sydney has certainly left behind a legacy of respect amongst those he's helped. We will always be grateful. RIP.

I am just gutted. I feel like I have lost a friend and I have never even met Sydney. I will miss his knowledge laden posts as well has his sometimes caustic ones. If BF decides it is appropriate to send flowers, offer financial aid, start some type of fund in Sydney's honor/memory please let me know, as I would love to contribute in whatever way I can. Rest In Peace Sydney and God Speed on all your future rides.

I was thinking a memorial ride would be appropriate as well.

I think the appropriate thing would be to place a letter of condolence to the family in the local newspaper. Perhaps it would bring awareness to the issue of bicyclist safety. Make it a big one. I'll pitch in.

omg, I can't believe this

speechless...

wtf I pm'ed this dude not to long ago, he always posted the most straight-forward advice (and didn't suffer fools lightly--but they learned from him)

everyone knew ya sydney, and even the carpet smokers and muppets benefitted greatly from your expertise--if there's a God, I'm sure you're correcting him right now.

Thanks for the advice, the humor, and most of all your no bs approach to cycling--you spoke the truth and cut through marketing bs, gave us common sense solutions to our questions, and yes--you agreed with us when we were right, and pointed us in the right direction when we weren't. you could've just high-fived us and told us what we wanted to hear, but you were often the messenger of difficult decisions that benefitted us in the long run--

you taught us to fish while so many others were handing out tuna sandwiches

peace bro

I think this is the first time we've lost a BF member in this way and I'm deeply saddened and I guess right now still in shock that we'll never hear from him ever again.
Every time I do a search now and see a post with his name on it, I'll have this empty feeling in the pit of my stomach.
It's not shocking that he went the way he did, riding, doing something he loved but it is shocking how it came about though. I hope the kid gets what's coming to him.

Very sad indeed. I always liked reading posts from sydney and will really miss them.
I think that everyone on the forums should honor him tomorrow, Saturday, with a moment of silence.

good grief, its hard to believe.
Sydney has always been the cycling encylopedia. I dont recall one time where a person could stump his cycling mechanics knowledge. That will always be missed here at BF...

it would be awesome if a couple hundred people had sydney sigs, for a couple weeks at least

it could be like this dedication thread (well, that's what it's becoming) except people will go into forums that sydney didn't visit and others will click on the sig to read this thread--great way to spread this tragic news and direct people to this thread so they can pay their respect, imho

just an idea

They should require cell phone jammers activated by the ignition switch that prevents cell phone use in a car while the engine is running.
