head tube diameters on ten speed frames
hey so i have some 1 1/8" threadless headsets in mind for a bike im building for which i do not yet have the frame. im probably going to use a ten-speed frame, probably raleigh. i know i should just measure the head tube of one but that is not possible at the moment so i was wondering if anyone knows if i'll have a bad time trying to find an old ten-speed frame with 1 1/8" or are they all 1"?
instead of all that cra p i could have just written: i want to know headset diameter for old ten speeds (if there is a standard that is), 1" or 1 1/8" ?

They are virtually all 1", except some which are a JIS 1" which I believe is slightly smaller than the standard 1". Basically, with road bikes, up until 2000 threaded was still pretty common in some brands and models, and 1" was still pretty common. It seems to me that its only in the past 5 years or so we have seen the shift from 1" and threaded to 1 1/8" and threadless.

yeah i actually saw that there's lots of 1" options for threadless HS too. so i'll wait to measure the frame once i have it but im happy theres 1" threadless ones so i can still go threadless.
is it ok to cut down the drive tube on a carbon fork if its too long? and do you know if you could clamp a threadless stem onto a threaded fork? or if its a long one then cut the threaded portion off the drive tube then treat it like a threadless? sorry to fire questions ya'll...
