3 spd shifter wont stay in gear
so i barely know anything about old schwinn three speed bikes. its a three speed internal type thing. only when you shift, it shifts gears if you hold onto the shifter lever but then it goes right back.
if it were a friction shifter i would just tighten the shifter up but this old shifter doesnt appear to have that ability.. it is either a problem with the shifter or with how the cable is connected into the hub. this is probably a realy easy question for someone who knows about three spds...

what? your shift leve on your three speed springs back? or the indicator chain is somehow misbehaving?
probably the lever. go to any old bike shop and buy another and install. those shifters arent the best. replace.

If the trigger is worn out and the hub and index chain are OK, you can always convert to a conventional friction shifter on the downtube, top tube, stem, or handlebar. I really enjoyed mine.
