I don't know but it looks to me like a false economy to risk gumming up your expensive hydraulic brake by using the wrong fluid.

I expect it would lead to loose brakes.

Hmmm, I have a feeling that it would lead to a moving experience! I wouldn't try it.

I read in the Barnett's manual that you can use 5wt suspension oil as a substitue for Shimano mineral oil. They mention the Finish Line brand in particular. I haven't tried it myself.

I just got the thought about it because i have a big bottle of the LAXATIVE USP mineral oil i use for those extra loong rides .I declined the notion though (wouldn't want my brakes to crap out in the middle of a fast descent
I will just keep it in my water bottle where it belongs
Thanks again

I dont think i would put anything but mineral oil in my reservoirs that call for mineral oil.
I think the problem with using different mineral oils is the viscosities & purities??
there is a myriad of various mineral oils.

You have to be careful of the compatability of the seals with the fluid. Fluid that disolves the seals is as bad as a fluid that gums the system.

surely, you'll just "go" when you really need to stop.

If you're going to fix it, do it properly & find the right stuff, or you'll have to fix it again for more money
