I don't know if I'm your peoples, but I'd say go see Mike at The Bicycle Station on Vanderbilt Ave (btw Dean and Bergen) in Brooklyn. No relation, no affiliation but as a customer. He's one of the best around and a real nice guy.

I was there recently on the word of a friend and got a tune up. It's a great little shop. The guy is seriously into racing but not dismissive of ordinary knock around cyclists such as myself.

Franks! at Franks bike shop far east on Grand. Very old school place, been at the same location for almost 40 years. Their cast iron truing stand is older than the shop. Big frank may seem like an old timer, but he definitely knows his stuff. I can't imagine how many wheels hes build up in the past 40 years.

He build up my GFs super cheapo fixie wheel using a used hub and a crappy single wall rim and it was very true and has been stout for the past two months of daily riding. And his prices are exceptional if you get on his good side.
If you're a super competetive roadie, or at least carry that designation on your sleeve, it probably isn't the place for you, but it's definitely worth dropping by just to see how a NYC bike shop was back in the day.
