Ultegra Lever Repair vs. Replace

Okay, I'm one of those guys who details my bike like others detail their cars...I've got a gouge on my left Ultegra shift lever where the finish has been scraped off. Is there a way to simulate that "chrome" looking finish OR can one order a new lever from Shimano (BTW, '05 10 Speed)?

You might want to ask someone at an auto-repair shop to see if they can match paint. You can't really order just the lever itself... at least not just the blade portion. You have to order the entire lever assembly (part no. Y-6K2 98030 for ST-6600) which I'm going to guess is probably a substantial cost of the entire brifter.

there will not be a touch up paint that can match the finish and the coverage. To avoid buying new shifter/levers, take off the rubber, mask off everything tightly, sand BOTH levers to the same finish and consistency and have them both airbrushed with the same primer/paint. Anything else will show that scratch.
If you do it right, you can do it cheaply.

that said...damn dude. It's only ultegra.
You should see my shifters. They look like they've been through a war, but they still shift and brake. You just can't have nice parts in NYC.

Ditto. My Dura-Ace (ST-7700) shifters have seen their fair share of "wear and tear" which includes a few crashes.

I figure they wear their scars as a mark of having been well-travelled.

that ain't bad! those things still look mint!

My shifters look like a prop off of a Terminator movie. The plastic lenses are shattered into a dozen pieces and I have roadrash on the hoods that's bout to poke through. I don't have a camera here, but I might be able to find something.

Given the options, sounds like I'll just wait until I collect a little more "damage," and then maybe the total sand and repaint would be the way to go. Maybe by that time I can afford DA and I won't care
