shimano 9/10 cassette switching questions

Just got a 'cross bike, with the new shimano 105 10-speed compact cassette and STIs.
I have an ultegra 9-spd cassetted wheelset with road tires that I was thinking of using to swap for road riding.
Am I correct in thinking that I will not be able to swap the 9-speed wheel in and expect proper shifting?
Am I also correct in thinking that I will need to redish the wheel and tweak spacing if I buy and put on a 105 10-speed cassette?
Am I also also correct in thinking that the new 10-speed system has already turned out to be a PITA when I need something durable and low maintenance? Special chains? Bogus. Maybe I will change my 10X2 into 9X2 and save myself some aggravation (I have the rest of the ultegra gruppo lying around). Of course, I would probably have to redish the 105 wheel for that too, right? arg.
Any advice appreciated. Sorry for such a noob question. I searched a bit before posting and didn't find exactly the info I need.

The road wheel will work in the cross bike. Just put a 10-speed cassette on it. No redishing is required. But you need to put a 1mm spacer on the road wheel freehub first.
