2 Tire failures in 1 week - What's Up?

2 Tire failures in 1 week - What's Up?
Last Wed I was out for my daily 20mi ride and my rear tire blew out with a bang. On examination I found the tire failed with a small tear right above the bead. Since I had 2100mi on the tire I figured it was just wear and went and bought two new Specialized All Condition tires for replacement. I put these on Thursday and went for a 20mi ride on Friday without any problems. Today I went for a ride and had the front tire blow out. On inspection there was a tear in the tire right above the bead. In all cases I inspected the rims carefully before putting the tires on and this was a failure in a different rim and a new tire?? Is this just a coincidence; old tire on rear, defective new tire on front? Or is there something else that could be causing this. Any help would be appreciated, new tires cost too much to replace weekly.

You didn't say anything about sizes, but if you're running wide tires on skinny rims, this is also known to increase the incidence of this sort of problem.

That may indeed be the problem. I did not think of checking the brake pads but as you mention it I did recall a burning rubber smell the last time I road and looking at the brake pads one pad both on the front and back is at the top of the rim close to the tire so it may be rubbing. I will adjust them. In regards to the tires I had 700 x 25c on them to begin with and replaced with 700 x 25c, the rims are 622 x 14. I also noticed that I had gotten inner tubes that were 20/28 and dropped these down to 18/25, not sure if that could cause a problem.
