Pedal washers?

Are these necessary on modern cranks? When are they needed, or is it a personal choice? I've never used used them, and our local LBS doesn't either.

Ahhh... The things that keep me awake at night

Check your pedals. If they're gouging into the cranks then you might want to consider using washers. If not or you don't care then I wouldn't bother. If you have carbon cranks and the shoulders of the pedals are touching beyond the non-metallic threadsert of the cranks thus contacting the carbon itself then it's probably a good idea to use washers to cover that area.

I use them if they are included with the crankset and don't worry about it if they'er not.

Thanks guys. They didn't come with any of the cranks on any of our bikes, and they seem fine. I always make a point to grease the threads and the face of the threadset, and I haven't seen any gouging or galling.

Take care!

Steve
