Threadless stem clamp sizes?
Anyone want to theorize on how critical the measurement of handlebar clamp diameters is on threadless stems? Last night I tried putting a pair of 25.4 bars in a 26.0 stem just to get a feel for where they put the bars, and it seems pretty stable. Am I just asking for trouble with this?

If it was my bike I'd use a shim with it. Maybe cut a section out of a soda can or something. Your stem clamp might not be putting even pressure all around the handlebar so all of the clamping force might be concentrated in just a couple of places.

If you are getting good clamping action and the handlebar clamp isn't closed completely you should be ok. The danger seems to be putting an oversized h-bar in a smaller stem as tightening the clamp distorts the bar.
If you want to use a shim, you need to take up a 0.6 mm diameter difference or 0.3 mm radius so you need 0.3 mm or 0.012" shim stock.
