I was thinking of buying the road bike Maintenance book just to have on hand when I try to do minor stuff to the bike. Then I found this other title by Zinn as well.

What are the differences between the two? Are they both worth having?

Your thoughts?

I've never heard of Zinn's cycling primer and I have his "art of..." book, so I guess the answer is no

The "art of" book covers everything you need to know for most repair/maintenance tasks and is easy to follow, only if you want to get really in depth on a specific topic is it lacking, but then you can't have it all...

For maintenance, you just want "...Art...". The Primer is worth looking at, but it looks at several topics (not necessarily maintenance related) in detail.

Between "...Art...", ParkTool.com, and sheldonbrown.com, you should be set for most situations.

Art of is fine. I have the latest edition.

some parts of it get kinda goofy, like the road fix for a broken seatpost is "..ride home standing up", and there is a figure demostrating the difference between a spline and a spleen.

Zinn's books for road and MTB are both good. Primer??? The suggestions above are excellent to round out your necessary reference tools.

If it helps, I'm completely on my own in terms of bike maintenance. I do it all. I even build them all myself. I've bought every book written about bike maintenance and those books have been my entire bike mechanics training ground. Well, I'm still looking for a copy of Brandt's wheel book. I agree with others that Zinn's books are the best for a beginner. They explain procedures understandably and are well illustrated. They are more than worth the price. I join everyone else in recommending them. Good luck.
