Time Pedals or something else?
I've been looking for pedals with a lot of float. It seems that Time pedals have 10 degrees of float. Does anyone have any experience with these pedals, good or bad. Are they and the clip durable?
I understand that speedplay has a large amount of float also, but one person reported that gunk can get in the pedal and make it hard to clipin or release.
Also I don't like the looks of the normal road shoe, so I'm leaning toward a MTB style shoe. I also don't like the clopping sound of clips on the floor.
Any suggestions?

i have time pedals/cleats for my around town fixed gear. i like them. never had a problem accidently unclipping which can be catastrophic on a fixed gear. though i did come unclipped while i was drunk (my own fault) which caused me to crash.
my only complaint is the bearing aren't very serviceable, though i got my pedals used and have been using them for a year now and they've only squeeked once. a little lube fixed that.
the other plus is they tend to be really cheap on ebay and other places.

You might consider Speedplay Frog pedals too. I have no experience with either them or the Time pedals, but they've got all the float you could ever want.
