Reba Spacer

I cracked open my Reba last night to switch it over to 100mm from 115. When I loosened the nuts and bolts at the bottom of the legs oil came out. The service manual said nothing about this. The only oil that I was suppose to see was on the air piston. Was this oil most likely a factory over abundance of oil to lube the legs? Anyone done the spacer add/delete to their Reba. Thanks.

Thers a number of things you need to check for ASAP. How much oil came out? Those forks run about 20c of oil in each leg to lube the bushings. If it was alot your damper is ****ed.
If its a "motion control" you need to inspect the bottom of the damper leg to see if the seal on it is blown or the cap is stripped. If its be stripped out or looks like the seal is blown out you need to take the top part of the damper out (The red part) and inspect it. Some earlier modles would explode uner pressuer and youd be left with a leg filled with floating parts waiting to jam. I ride a Pike fork and it popped within a week of riding it.

Rock shox forks are famous for not making sence, its sorta hard to help ya without it being in my hands.

Thanks for the info. The oil came out of both legs. It is a motion control. This fork is brand new, never ridden. I am setting it up. I have a Reba 29 on my other bike, but I have never had any problems and it's an '06. The "new" one is an '05. It was not a lot of oil. Do I refill at the crown or pour it into the legs. The manual only talks about the oil on top of the air piston, which will require a refill at the crown.

The oil is in the lowers to lubricate the bushings/stanchions. The manual should tell you how much belongs in the lowers so that you can re-lube them. I think it's 15cc. You refill it by pouring it into the lowers. You can install the lowers and just engage the upper bushing then pour the oil into the shaft holes(obviously it is necessary to have the fork tilted up or upside down). The oil in the air chamber is also for lubrication of the air piston o-ring. You can change the spring rate characteristics by adding more oil but it's probably not a good idea. It is routine maintenance to replenish the air piston o-ring oil on occasion since it will bypass and end up below the air piston. If you motion control is "locking out" and functioning normally then you shouldn't need to worry about whether or not you messed itup. If it's low on oil it won't lock out properly.
