installing brake cables

What is the little white strip inside Ultegra hoods? It looks like a piece of white twisty like you fasten small trash bags with. If it belongs there, exactly where should it be? It is presently right behind the metal piece that you thread your new brakes cables through and it is in the way.

It's a contact strip that connects to the buttons for the Shimano "Flight Deck" cyclocomputer. It allows the computer functions to be accessed from the STI levers.
