Frame prep in Ireland

Hi,

just bought the new Giant XTC frame. If any other Irish bikers are using this forum and know where I could get my frame prepped (Bottom bracket faced and thread-cleaned, headset reamed and faced, disc brake mounts prepared....) then please please let me know.

The only place that I know of so far is Chainreaction cycles in Antrim, which is the opposite end of the country to me!

Thanks

Where are you based in Ireland. Hollingsworth Stillorgan, Dublin have a very good mechanic, ask for Barry (01) 2960225. I used them to build up a Trek frame for me last October and results were excellent. I have been using them for about 5 years.
Are you sure you need all this work done. I would have thought that the frame would have come ready for bottom bracket, ok headset may need to be put together and as for disk brakes mounted. Are the mounts not already on the frame. Anyway one good conversation with Barry and he should sort you out.

I don't think you you need all of this done.

IMHO... out board bearing and internal/integrated headsets mean no need for facing. To much paint is the only reason to face now jigs and parts are much better now.
As for the "cleaning/preparing" the threads just thread your part in slowly. If there is resistance back it out use a brass (soft) wire brush to clear slivers re-thread use plenty of lube on the treads.

Due the build your self.

Thanks for the replies.
I tried that number but it was a friday and Barry wasn't around. Ile try it again soon.

* You're right about the integrated headset not needing to be faced. It may have to be reamed though (so that the cups for the 1 1/8" headset will press into the adapter ring without too much force.) Regarding the bottom bracket, I've read that it's essential to have it faced, esp. if you are installing a bottom bracket with oversize external bearings (such as in the raceface x-type or the Shimano Hollowtech II). Cleaning of the threads prob isn't essential but the Park facing tool does both jobs at the same time anyway...
