Shimano Compact FC-R700 Compatibility

Does anyone know if this crank is compatible with 9-speeds?

Or if not, can it be made compatible with the addition of some shims to widen the spacing between the rings?

Thanks.

I was looking into the same thing and from what I've found is that it can be done with no problem. Using a Shimano chain was recommended because it was thinner than a SRAM, for instance.

Of course you'll probably need to adjust the front deraileur(sp?).

Good luck!

There is the R600 which is 9 speed specific and practically identical.

I run the 700 on my DA 9 drivetrain and it works perfectly. Nearly as good as my DA9 cranks with the lesser jump.
