Spoke calc seems off

I'm getting ready to buy another rim and spokes to replace my back wheel on my rain bike, so I plugged the numbers into the spokecalc spreadsheet on SB's website, and I got 299.2 and 297.8. I haven't built a dished wheel in a while, and the difference seems awfully small. Am I, as the kids say, "trippin?"

Its a LX (FHM570), and a CR18.

Thanks!

Rear wheels are frequently only 1 or 2mm different, from side to side spoke lenght. I'd say that the majority of wheels I have built have had a 2mm difference.

SpoCalc been very, very good to me ;-)

With spokecalc always round down. So use 299 on left and 297 on drive side.

Sounds about right for a shimano hub and road wheel to me. Spoke difference seems about right.

That's a good rule for other spoke length calculators also. Better to be slightly short than slightly long (when talking spokes ).

Really? Depends on the rim and depends on the calculator, I guess. With double walled rims, there's absolutely nothing wrong with being a touch long, and I'd rather have a little bit of spoke sticking out of the top of the nipple than have threads showing.

Personally, I think that if the spoke calculator is written so that the spoke end comes out right at the bottom of the nipple slot (like Bike-alog's Spokemaster), I'm always going to round up.
