Tire repair?

Ugh. My relatively new back tire just got a nasty gash. It didn't go through the casing but now the tire is bulging at that spot a little and it's making me nervous. I'd really rather not replace the tire since it otherwise has a lot of life left. Any suggestion on how to repair it or at least keep it from getting worse without affecting the ride too much?

My current plan is to stick a pre-glued patch on the inside of the tire in the affected area just to shore it up a little. Is this a bad idea? Any other suggestions?

It sounds like the casing is cut! Not good!!! You can put a section of used tire in the damaged area and see how that works, but a new tire is in your future! This stuff happens.

I agree with Itchy. If the tire is bulging, that pretty much indicates that the casing has been damaged. You might prolong the life a bit by putting in a boot, a section of used tire. Use a fairly long piece of used tire so that the damaged area is well covered and then some. Glue it in place with tire cement or Shoe Goo, and let it dry for a couple days before you reinflate. If it still can't handle the pressure, then you may need to replace that tire. It's been said before on these forums, a new tire costs less than dental work. :)
