Advice on easy fire repair
 

I have on my mountain bicycle Deore LX for a couple of years. The easy fire is only able to move the derrailler between 5th and 9 th rear cogs. If I try to move the derailler obove the 5th cog, I cannot, the easy fire trigger just moves freely without "grabing the cable". All the rear gear system is well tuned and this malfunction is not related with the limiting bolts at the derrailer or the settings of the cable housing. please guys, help me find a solution to this malfunction.

Try giving the inside of your shifter a shot of WD40 and follow it up with a blast of compressed air. That often does wonders.

If that doesn't work you might have to replace the shifter. If your shifter is combined with the brake lever, have your LBS order just the shifter pod for you.

There is a little ratchet mechanism in there with a very light spring. If that gets gummed up, you get the symptoms that you describe. The pawl will not engage the gear. This is one place where WD40 can be a good thing for a bike.

A bit off-topic but, when I saw the title of your thread, I assumed you wanted advice about restoring a bike that had been through an actual fire. :)
