I have been using the Sigma (1600) RDS Wireless. I have to check often to see that it's operating, and then have to fiddle with the sensor position a lot to get it working/reading again. Needless to say, it's a hassle to have to do this. This is Sigma's older generation system- I don't know anything about their newer ('digital?') incarnation, perhaps someone here does.

I've done a search here and what I've come up with is that the Cateye Micro has a well-favored status with MTB BikeForum users. I'm leaning toward it, what have you to say on this?

And yes, I DO consider just riding and having fun my main focus on the bike- but I also like having the computer info as well.

My Cateye CD 300 DW has been great. All four readings - speed, distance, elapsed time, and cadence - available and readable at all times.

I found my wireless Polar to be spotty. Switched to wired Cateye and no going back. Wireless is less reliable, readings are lagged, the setup weighs more, batteries need to be replaced. Wired = set it and forget it. I'll check back on wireless cyclometers in 5 years.

I had the same problems you had with Sigma and I'll never own another one. Mine lasted for about 4 months. I've been using a Cateye now for a while and I like it very much.

I'm going to disagree on the Cateye CD 300 DW because this thing eats batteries. My last computer was a wired one. I was expecting a shorter battery life, but not this short.

I have a digital transfer Sigma (BC-2006) that I have been using for about a month. As long as the chest strap is tight enough and I moisten my chest skin before putting it on, it works great.

I've never understood the allure of wireless. I'd way rather run a wire once and be done with it than have to put up with more batteries to replace and intermittent operation. I've also read abit on this forum about interferance from powerlines etc.

You might if you had a frame with internal cable routing.

The batteries in the transmitter unit seem to last a lot longer than the display unit. 2 years and still working fine.

Mine seem to be the opposite. But we get 40 below F in winter, which may not help.

My wired sigma was crap, I got a good price on a wireless rts1600l, it is working but the corner is cracked and I dont even remember it hitting anything. Last time with sigma. I think I'll go Cat eye next.

I am thinking of going to wireless and here's why. I have a Cateye Atrale 8 (wired) computer with cadence, and for the second time in a year I am starting to get a sketchy cadence reading, i.e. sometimes I get it and sometimes I don't. I have tried to get the magnet and pickup as close as possible without clicking on every crank revolution, but to no avail. When this happened the first time this spring, I concluded that the wiring had worn through on the cadence pickup, so I needed to replace the wiring harness. Now it is 6 months later and I am starting to get the same thing. I can either replace the harness again and hope that this time it will not wear through (and try to figure out why it is wearing), or I can go with a computer with wireless cadence. So far, the Sigma doesn't seem to be getting a very good review here; I may have to look at the VDO product. When I get closer to my purchase, I'll probably post a request for reviews on both models.

Thanks to everyone who posted here. I picked up a Cateye Micro wireless and I am extremely satisfied with it.
