bike maintenance

I just got a new bike for commuting and was wondering what sort of daily/weekly/monthly/etc... maintenance I should do to keep it in good shape? Thanks!

A lot depends on your mileage and the weather you commute in.

Check tyres one a week
Oil chain once a week or more in Winter every 2 weeks or more Summer
Check brake bock wear once every 2 weeks
Chain once a month for wear
Change cables once a year, if you want less, then only rear gear cable
Change bottorm bracket once a year
Grease hub bearings once a year
Grease headset once a year
Grease stem/seat post once a year

The list above is pretty good. Except, bottom brackets last for several years. At least they do for me.
