So I just bought a new Sirrus Comp a few weeks ago... after about 50 miles the front wheel is slightly out of true. I worked on it for the first time (normally send them to the LBS) and ended up getting it from about 3.5mm out of true (lateral) down to 1.5mm-2mm. This seems to be as good as I can get after about 20-30 minutes of trying.
So my question is this: Is 2mm good enough or should I take it to the LBS?
when you say 2mm, do you mean 1mm deviation on either side, or 2mm deviation on either side?
if you've come this far, i'd say keep working on it to get it as straight and round as possible on your own, being very mindful of the tension in the spokes. when working with an area of the wheel that is out of true, or out of round, don't try to correct it by tightening or loosening only one spoke a whole bunch, you have to work with groups of spokes in small increments to maintain relatively even tension.
