are most pedals standard, and switchable??

Thanks,

there are 9/16" and 1/2". I forget which one is standard (I think 9/16"). 1/2 only came on super low-end (huffy et al) bikes, and older bikes.

Most pedals are standard 9/16", but some older 1 piece crank stuff is 1/2". Some old BMX stuff was 1/2", but you should be fine. Just throw them in and you'll be able to tell.

Just for the record: The right and left pedals have different threading, and will strip the crank arms if you do not get it right.

Cotterless cranks, aka 3-piece cranks, usually use 9/16" spindle pedals.

One piece cranks use 1/2" spindle pedals.

The measurement refers to the threaded spindle that you screw into the crank arm. The wrench flats are usually 15mm.

Cottered cranks are also 3-piece cranks, are they not?
