Velomax hub

I have a bike with Velomax hubs and wheels. The freewheel is jammed. I can't figure out how to get it apart. Any tips?

Thanks.

This ended up being really good advice. I checked the website, and they have downloadable repair instructions which are very detailed. So I printed out the document for rear hubs, and armed with it I had the courage to go out to the garage and attack my hub. Before I started, I sprayed the whole thing with WD-40 and wiped it off to clean it. I then noticed that my hub looked nothing like the instructions, no matter how hard I looked. However, while I was re-reading the instructions, some of the WD-40 must have seeped in, because I then noticed that the freewheel was turning, with some resistance. So I popped off the dust cap and squirted some oil in, and it was good as new. So I still have no idea how to disassemble it, but it's working now. So (indirect) thanks to the website, and to fsor for leading me there!

I did get another benefit from the website. I was very concerned that if I couldn't fix the hub I would be screwed. The hub is a 28-spoke, 130mm, disc hub -- how's that for oddball? As far as I can tell it is only available as part of a wheelset, MSRP $499.99. However, from the website I learned that the cassette body is a stock shimano 9-speed which I can get from Nashbar.

This Internet thing is all right, I should also thank Al Gore for inventing it.

I have had very good luck with the velomax now easton folk....not everyone has, I guess, but between their website and the customer service telephone number I have been very happy. I did not mean to be flippant...I have never had one of their freehubs apart. Glad it worked out for you.

1. take off dust caps/cones
2 remove cassette and
3 with a plastic mallet, gently *whang* on one end of the axle until the bearing pops out one side.
4 repeat, but on other side to remove other bearing.
5 insert 10mm allen wrench into left side of the hub. Turn counterclockwise to loosen cassette fixing nut.
6 either replace cassette (best idea) or be cheap like me and remove the bottom contact seal, clean with solvent, let dry, then relube by injecting a heavy oil or squishing in as much grease as you can through the tiny opening.
7 reverse directions to install.

Thanks ATN.

I kinda figured that it all pressed together, because nothing is threaded and all the exposed parts have no flat sides. Does it matter which side of the axle you "whang" first?
