Adjustable BB Knocking Issue
Hi all,
I have recently built up a track bike with a sugino adjustable bb and I have found that there is a few millimeters of knocking and wobble in the cranks. So I've done some searches and tightened up the adjustable side/lock ring to reduce any play in the cranks, but in order to eliminate the knocking, I have to tighten the adjustable cup much tighter than I would like; almost as tight as it will go.
Is there any way to avoid tightening the cup so much? I need to eliminate the knocking, but don't want to do that at the expence of friction in the bearings.
Thanks,
Chad

Take it apart and see if the axle or cups are worn and pitted. If so, replace. Beyond that, you just need to find the magic point where the crank turns freely but there is no play in the cranks.
