Installing new chainring

Is there a right way up on this ? Does it have to line up with anything ? Outer chainring on a triple.

There is often a pin on the outside that should line up with the crank. It's to prevent the chain from getting wedged between ring and arm. The ramps of a ramped chainring are also positioned for best chain pickup. There is usually some sort of indicator (e.g. a small triangle) on the part of the chain ring that should line up with the crank arm.
