over-tightened barrel adjuster -- HOW DO I LOOSEN THIS???

hey, I got a Gary Fisher Big Sur 2004. I am trying to install new a new cable for my rear brake but the barrel-adjuster will not move AT ALL. appearently it was over-tightened. Anything I can do to loosen it? I have tried lubing it and everything but the thing just won't loosen.

You may have to remove it and use something like a needle nose pliers. Some are made differently than others.
