Shimano 105 Shifter cable wrongly routed
Just recived my new Pinarello Galileo and am in the process of assembly, but find the right, i.e rear, shifter cable has not been threaded thru the lever correctly; it does not go thru the hole in the side of the lever but behind it. I have been trying to align the notch by clicking the lever 8 times but it won't click, so I can't disconnect the cable to re-route it. The dealer it received it from is 100 miles away. Any help wld be appreciated.

Disconnect the cable at the rear derailleur and try to push it backwards out of the shifter. If it wasn't threaded properly into the cable hole in the ratchet, clicking the lever probably won't help.
I do have to ask. Who did the buildup and how could the dealer ship a bike that won't shift? Didn't they check anything?

Hi Hillrider - that was quick!
I have already tried pushing the cable back thru the lever, but it won't move. I've also looked at the Shimano site to see how to dismantle the lever, but I think I want to avoid that - it looks a bit intimidating.
As for who did the build up; I did. That was the arrangement and I did get a discount. It's pretty simple to do until you encounter a problem like this!

You really can't dismantle the shifter portion of an STI. They are considered unservicable.
Will either lever click? Try to get the mechanism out of the way as much as possible so the cable will come out.

I now have the bike on my bike stand so I can take a closer look. I can move each lever, but there is no click and when I push the brake lever to the left as far as poss I can not see the cable end/notch as it is wrapped around inside the lever. Pushing the cable to try to free it from the notch has no effect. Next stop, my LBS, I fear.

sounds like the cable end has gotten out of it's stop it become stuck between the lever body and racheting mechanism. I usually pry it out with a tiny flat head screwdriver. Pull the brake lever to the bar so you can see what's going on inside there.

Click the release (inner) lever as often as you can while maintaining a little tension on the cable. Maybe that will bring the ratchet and cable head around to where you can get to it.
