48t on a compact crank
I have a 50/34 compact crank that I would like to put a 48t outer ring on. Will I have any issues doing this. It is a nasbar rpm compact crank. Also looking for recommendations on who makes descent chainrings. Am also hoping this will keep any shifting problems with my 105 FD.

48t will work fine. You could probbaly lower the front mech a tad to improve shifting with the smaller ring.
Specialities-TA make excellent rings used by many long distance tourists and professional racers. They are hardwearing and have all the pins and ramps.

I've got a 110 BCD crankset and am running a 48t big ring and Shimano 105 front derailleur. Works flawlessly. The Nashbar chainrings you can order separately are made by Stronglight (they actually come in a Stronglight package), at least the ones I've ordered are. They seem to be nice chainrings, I've had no problems.
edit: I agree with Michael W, you'll need to lower the front der. just a bit with the smaller size ring.

Some compacts are sold with the 48 instead of the 50. 48-110 bcd rings are readily available. Salsa, FSA, Sugino, just to name a few has them. I think 48 makes a lot of sense. If you like your top end, make sure your cassette at least includes a 12 cog.
