Hmmmm, thanks for the heads up. I'll check the shop, but don't think I've seen any silver ones around. I do have silver on my road bike, but I got that in the middle of last summer. I'll check anyway just to be safe.

Interesting. Especially that it's only silver skewers. I have black xt hubs and skewers HB-M756 that are on the list. What could the difference be between the silver and black hubs that makes the black ones not affected but silver ones are a recall of the same model? Weird.

Thanks for the heads-up, I get plenty hurt on my own as it is.

Probably a batch related issue.

In production environments, sometimes there might be a mess up over the course of a night....now depending on volume, that cna be one to hundreds of peices or more, depending on the scale of the mess-up.

So as a hypothetical....maybe they had a newbie on the line that day, he assmebled something wrong, and kept doing it all night, or something of the sort.

We get this kind of problem in the electronics industy...someone puts a diode on backwards, for 400 boards, etc.

That article does not give the complete numbers of the affected parts. For example, HB 5501-L is recalled while HB 5501-A is not. Black refers to the color of the skewer shaft not the lever. Here's the official info from Shimano:

RECALL

Thank you Dogbait for the additional info!!! Pics of the actual hubs and descripton of the problems really helps. Sorry that I couldn't supply that myself, I just posted all that I had.....

when there were wiffs surrounding the extent of the recall, there was some humorous speculation at our shop meeting about hopes it didn't affect all shimano skewers produced in the last decade....

Hmm...

I have two sets of wheels that may be affected but I don't see any numbers printed on them like to diagram shows.

They're Ultegra hubs w/ silver skewers.

Should this number be stamped into the hub or is it printed on it?

I just bought some wheels with the affected scewers this week! Anybody have any trouble getting a replacement from the LBS or mail in? I bet that I can find the recalled scewers on new bikes in the LBS.
Shimano's official recall notice.

Wow - I had the affected front skewer, but someone stole my back wheel and while they were at it stole the front skewer (leaving the wheel). Guess I need not worry about the recall, and if there's any justice, their "new" skewer will fail on them!
