Fuji Ace stem and handlebar replacement

I've done some search but can't get a clear answer on this.

scenario is I'm converting a 2003 Fuji Ace to a single speed with Nitto front end.

I ordered Nitto drop bars with a 25.4 clamp size. What is the clamp size of the bike??? I am wanting to know if I need to get the 25.4 to 26.0 shims.

Also, after riding like that for a while I plan on adding a Nitto track stem. What specs will I need to know to match that setup?

Any help appreciated..my LBS is being snotty about helping because I'm ordering all of the parts and not buying his leftovers!!!

Are you ordering through your LBS? If not, they do have a right to be a little snotty. However, if you are ordering through them, it's really not polite to be "snotty" with you because you won't buy what they want right then.

Your Fuji Ace is a 26.0mm clamp. Nitto bars work off of the "old" clamp diameter standard of 25.4. However, all "mountain" or flatbar stems are still a 25.4mm clamp, and you could replace with that.

I haven't looked at the specs on the Nitto stem, but you may run into an issue there. You have a threadless "aheadset" on your Fuji currently. The Nitto stem may be threaded. This will lead to some greater compatibility issues.

I would recommend going to the Nitto stem right now if compatibility isn't a problem, or switching to a flatbar stem with the appropriate clamp, rather than shimming. I've just never been comfortable using a shim to make something like handlebars fit, when so much of my weight can be on them.

thanks for the help!
the bars were an excellent ebay deal..that deal is complete and looks like i'll be running the 25.4 with the shims and hopefully when the time comes to do the Nitto stem I'll be able to figure out the compatability issues of threaded v. threadless.

thanks again
