Eggbeater creaking?

My eggbeaters have been making this annoying "walking on gravel sound" since about a week ago. They are still pretty new, the shoes i've had for about 3 years. I tried droping some oil into the threads on the cleat plate, but it still seems to make the sound. any ideas?

Maybe it's time to squirt some grease in them. Or better yet, tear em down and rebuild them at this point if they sound that bad.
