cnonverting from V to L brakes. possible?

i have the Kona Smoke and the V brakes are difficult for me to work with. is there an easy, inexpensive way to convert the V brakes to L brakes?

its a 22inch frame with Tektro 837AC brakes and Tektro RS-384A brake levers.

L brakes?

i'm assuming that you mean older style cantilever brakes. but honestly, V brakes are a lot easier to set up and dial in than most cantis. some newer models (avid shorty4's, shorty6's) use the same pad alignment system as most V brakes, which makes them much easier to set up.

I clicked on this thread because I wanted to know what L brakes were.

Assuming you're talking about cantilevers, then it's pretty straight forward to switch from one to the other because they use the same mounting bosses, but it will require replacing both brakes and levers, so the only inexpensive way to do it is to buy cheap parts

I think V brakes work great, and I've never had trouble setting them up, so I can't figure out why you'd want to switch. usually people are thinking about switching from cantis to V and not the other way round.

The L brakes would also need a little fin (boss) to hold the cable before they split, your newer bike don't have that & without it that not sure it could work efficiently.

Good point you need a brake stop for the headset, and seat tube. they are relatively inexpensive. The headset one replaces a spacer, and the rear one usually bolts to the seatpost bolt if there is not a stop on the frame. They have them at Nashbar, Harris, etc.

guess i called the "L" brakes the wrong thing huh.... thanks for taking it easy on me this is my first real attempt at replacing something. im having a real hard time with removing the tires and getting the brakes back on after i do so. the wires are really tight. i loosened them but it just seems to be too much work for something so little. ill mess around some more and check out those links.

thx
