Segement on Distracted Drivers on GMA

his is a copy of an e-mail I received this week from one of the producers concerning the show on distracted drivers. "This segment should air on GMA on 6/19. I will let you know more as the time gets closer". Last I heard the young man that hit my dad (sydney) was going to be a part of it, we sent pictures and stories about my dad and my sister and I did a interview here locally but to how they use it we shall see.

So as of today that is still the plan, if it changes I will post that.

If you posted with my dad on Road Bike Reviews (Rusty Coggs) or CyclingForums.com (bourdeaux) if you could mention it as well since I do not have access to start threads on those forums that would be great!

Update on Segment to be shown on Good Morning America

Again, just when I think they will finally show the piece on distracted drivers......I get this instead.

"Unfortunately, we are not going to air this on Monday.
I am not sure it will ever make air."

I am so sorry,

Andrea (Segment Producer GMA)

So unless something changes it looks like this is not going to get air time.

Kimberlee,
So sorry to hear that this will not make it to the airwaves. It's sad that a person who obviously loved cycling so much should pass on as your Dad did. The fact that you care enough about his passion to keep all of his followers updated says alot about both you and your Dad.

Your Dad was so often the voice of reason and the person who helped us all filter out what was true and what was not. This forum definitely misses that.

Thank you for the update and I hope that the inertia of his spirit will make the GMA folks make this happen some day.

Sincerely,
Bill

I had a request on another cycling board to post e-mail address for the
person over the segment, so I thought I would post it here as well.

Kimberlee
Hi all,
I am bumping this thread back to the top as I think it deserves a more attention. I would not usually do this, but I think that our old friend sydney deserves a little better from us.

If a moderator sees this, I would think it may be appropriate to cross post Kimberlee's message to other sections of the forum. Thank you for that.

As you can see by reading all the posts, there was to be a segment to be aired on Good Morning America this coming Monday morning. But, for some unknown reason, it got cancelled. Anybody that rides a bike should be upset over this.

Fortunately, Kimberlee, Jim Price's daughter, has provided us with the email address of someone at GMA that we can all send a note to. It's probably a good idea to keep it polite and try to state some good reasons why you think this piece show make it to air. Try to be a good representative for the cycling community. This is not just for bike mechanics, but for anyone who rides bicycles.

For newbies on the forum ....

We formerly had a member that posted several thousand messages on this forum, and most of them were in the Mechanics section. He was a tough guy on people who did not have their facts correct and kept a lot of people in line with reality. Jim Price, known on this forum as "sydney", was an avid biker and an extremely knowledgeable source of information. In a very tragic incident, Jim Price was killed while riding his bike. He was hit by a car, driven by a young man who was busy checking his text messages and attempting to drive at the same time. This could happen to anyone who rides a bike and this is a chance to both honor Jim's memory and possibly educate someone and save lives.

Please take a few minutes and send a message to the email address provided by Kimberlee and let the folks at GMA know that you want to see this piece on "Distracted Drivers" shown on national TV.

Thanks for your time. Please send that mail.

sydney, old friend, we miss you.

Regards,
Bill ("cascade168")

I sent a message; it probably could have been more polite, though.

Well, I just spoke to Andrea and was told basically the segement is not "upbeat" enough for them to broadcast it. In my opinion that is crap, this in not an upbeat story, it should not be an upbeat story...this is reality, someone died due to someone elses lack of attention to others on the road.

She would like to air it, but she does not have the final say. I was told they will try and air it in Denver (locally). She told me she was frustrated in that she is a bicyclist and thinks this story needs to be put out there.

She did tell me she has received a ton of e-mails so I know others are frustrated by this as well.

Any way this is where it stands for now.

I sent an email to address above. We all remember sydney, so take a second and drop an email to the producer in his honor. Can't hurt, and it might do some good.
