install a stem raiser?

Hi bought a new bike but found out that the stem cannot be raised.
I have been suggested to add a stem raiser which would extend it for up to 3 1/2 inches.

Now, it comes in different sizes but how do I know what size is mine?
Thanks a lot

The riser comes in 1" and 1-1/8" sizes which has to match the diameter of your fork's steerer tube. Measure the outside diameter of the steerer (you will have to remove the stem to get to it.) A 1" stem will be, doh, 1" OD (25.4 mm) and a 1-1/8" will be just that (28.6 mm).
