crazy bb repair
So I obtained a nice old Raleigh frame from my brother a while back and it lived in the corner until I built up a fixed wheel to put on the rear end. Everything was great except for the right hand threaded cup on the right side of the bottom bracket that kept backing out. Of course those wonderful non standard Stronglight cranks made it even more fun to approach the bottom bracket. So today I tackled the cranks with a dremel and destroyed them off of the bike Turns out that the bottom bracket was composed of two Phillips "Made in England" adjustable cups, right hand threaded into both sides. On a whim I decided to see if I could thread a nice sealed 105 bb in and it worked perfectly! So even though someone had forced the wrong threads into the frame, the original threads were still ok enough to hold. I put my old crankset on it and now it rides like a charm. I just cannot comprehend how someone could completely reverse thread something? Would they not have to seriously force the right hand threaded cup against the left hand threads?
