sugino rd cranks
hi.
I have sugino RDs that I am using on my fixed gear. noticed that on the inside of the spider arms looks like another chainring can go there. yes? working on a geared bike project and want to know if I can use these cranks as a double or, like, what?
thank youse guys.
also: finding 130bcd chainrings is difficult (ramped). no?

I don't know about "ramped" chainrings for 130 bcd chainrings, but you get 130's in a lot of sizes on the Harris Cyclery website (Sheldon Brown's stomping grounds). Personally, I don't think the pins and ramps on chainrings are that big a deal, so I wouldn't lose a lot of sleep worrying about them - the number of teeth is much more important. Of course, that's just an opinion, one worth exactly what you are paying for it.
As for the Sugino crank, if it looks like it can take a second 'ring, it almost certainly can. Possible other issues for using the current crank as a double are (1) crank arm length and (2) whether the current chainring bolts are long enough to handle a second chainring.
Good luck - I love being able to get good use out of currently owned parts and hate being in the middle of doing so only to discover that "you can't get there from here."

The RD is also sold as a double, so yeah it should work. You will need longer chainring bolts. Also finding road rings in 130BCD should be easy as it's the current road standard.

your RD's will certainly work as a double. i have some older sugino track-specific cranks, and they'd work as a double, if i wanted to track down 144mm bcd rings with 3/32" compatibility and of suitable size. as for 130mm bcd, that is, as others have said, the current standard, garden variety road chainring. trouble is, you'll likely find only really common road sizes on the cheep, which will prolly be fine. check out salsa chainrings, if the typical 39/42/52/53 tooth szes wont do the trick for ya.
