Need Nitto Trekking bar help

Need Nitto Trekking bar help
I just bought a Nitto Trekking bar and tried to install it on my B-stone MB3. I want the controls next to the stem, where they are with the stock bars, but I find that I can't get the shifters or brake levers around the bends in the new bars. These are Deore components ca. 1991, made from aluminum, can they be bent (ie: spread open) without breaking? Is there another way? Thanks for your help. D

Well as you have discovered flat bar controls aren't designed to move around curves and trekking bars aren't designed to allow you to do it. The correct position for the controls are on the initial flat section, their easy to fit and it most closely replicates the origional position. If you find the new location of the levers is too close then fit a longer stem.
