Brakes with external mounting nuts?
I just set up my old trash pile rescue Trek as a fixed gear. I had taken the brakes off several months ago to put on my wife's bike, thinking I would put on some NOS 8-speed vintage 105 brakes. When I went to put them on today I realized they wouldn't work because they use the modern sleeve type nut, and the frame and fork are drilled for external. Has anyone drilled out the rear hole in the frame and fork to accept the sleeve-type nut? Any problem with that? Since modern frames are made that way it doesn't seem like is should be a problem. Or should I just see if I can find a set of brakes with external nuts? I would really like to use these 105 brakes if I can.
If it ain't broke, mess with it anyway!
