From Shimano to Campy ?

I have a pair of Ksyriums SSLs w/Shimano (rear) hub.

Is it possibly to change to a Campy hub to enable me to put a Campy cassette( on a Campy gruppo bike)?

So you will be rebuilding a wheel using the Ksyrium rim and a Campagnolo hub (or a campy compatible like a DT). You will need to calculate spoke length for the lacing you will use (I am figuring radial). How many spokes? Mavic has 20s, Mavic, DT, American Classic and Zipp have 24-hole hubs and Campy makes 28h Record. It might make more sense to start from scratch and just sell your Ksyrium rear wheel and have a new rear wheel built on a new hub and rim. The front wheel could be left alone unless you want to sell the both of them as a set.

American Classic has gender changers that change the spacing of the cogs to allow cassettes that have Shimano splines and Campy spacing. Several other cassette boutiques do also. If only Campy cassettes will do then best buy a new wheel and wholesale out the old.

Don't sell the rear wheel yet..........

I have one of these on a Dura Ace 9-speed hub (on a Mavic OP wheel) and it works quite well with my Chorus 10 speed.

Wippermann 10 speed chain also shifts flawlessly over this cassette.

I did some research and also considered the American Classic mentioned above but opted for the Wheels Mfg.

I was under the impression that one of the benefits of MAVIC's FTS-L freehub system was ease of converstion from Shimano to Campy and back.

Is this not the case?

Correct. You don't have to replace the hub/rebuild the wheel--just swtich the freehub bodies. You need to buy a Campy freehub body for the Mavic hub. Shops that have Mavic wheelsets should have one in stock, but call to make sure. I know my shop gets caught without one from time to time. The only tools required to switch Mavic freehubs are allen wrenches (assuming you have the tools to switch Shimano and Campy cassettes). Changing the freehub body on the Mavic wheel is very, very easy once you know what you're doing. Mavic has some instructions on their website. I think they are under the heading of "freehub overhaul." When you pull the Shimano freehub body off make sure you don't lose any pawls or springs. They pop out sometimes when you pull off the freehub body, use your free hand to keep this from happening. There are only two pawls and two springs, so it isn't as if a billion parts are going to fly out. Obviously, once the Campy freehub is on you can use a Campy cassette.

If you don't want to switch the freehub bodies yourself labor at a shop should be around $15.
