click sound on downward movement of pedal
Having a problem with, methinks, my bottom bracket. On a downward movement of my pedal, I am receiving an annoying clicking sound; this applies to both left and right. I actually get this when I increase the transference of power or stand up and spin.
There is no wobble or movement of my cranks and I have made sure that all pedals etc are tight. I have recently had it serviced and asked the store to check the bottom bracket at the time and they said it was fine. This noise is getting really annoying and is disturbing the peaceful tranquility of Sunday afternoon rides with the dog round the Chase!
Any ideas anybody?

My trusty T-700 would do the same thing and drive me & the bike shop nuts. On it I finaly figured out it was the rear rake making the freaking clicking sound. So even 10 years later I hear a click I head straight to the rack and tighten up a couple of screws and 95% time it's gone. Other 5%? Bottom Bracket, seat post loose or not greased and loose chain rings.

Thanks for the reply. I don't have a rear rack. However, I have stripped as much down as I can, and then retightened everything, but to no avail. I shall just have to persist with the local shop

I had a nice popping in my bottom bracket, and I've fixed many with this problem. Many bikes that come out of Taiwan do not have adequate grease on the threads of the bottom bracket. Pull out the BB, clean the threads, grease the threads and put anti-seize on them, then put the BB back in there. This usually fixes any popping.
Also, check that BB to make sure it's smooth and not loose.

O.K.
Didn't have the correct tools.
Ebayed a brand spanking new tool collection.
Hunted down the correct grease.
Completed all the wife's chores, to earn myself an uninterrupted hour (even cooked the tea!)
Made a coffee
Got out the old universal DIY Bike manual
Removed the Pedals, cranks and BB
Greased
Refitted the Pedals, cranks and BB
Went for a spin...
...and your advice was absolutely spot on!!
Weeks of annoying clicking gone!
Thanks very much, you don't know what this means...

I've had it before that the pedals cause the clicking. Not the axle, or the bearings or the axle/crankarm threaded connection, but the cage which is screwed into the main pedal body. Some loctite on the screws which connect the cage to main pedal body cleared it up.
I've had other weird creaks, with various bikes, that I've not figured out, too.
