I have acquired a Cinelli Proxima (2002) frameset, which i plan to build up over the next few months. I've decided on Campagnolo components over Shimano.

One of my first components to buy, is the bottom bracket, but i am unable to confirm whether this frameset is English or Italian BB threading.( I can only assume that being a Cinelli frame, that i will need an Italian thread.)

Any help on how to identify the threading of the BB shell would be a great help.

Hello!

Italian BB shells are 70 mm wide
English ones are 68 mm wide
This difference is really small, but really important.
The best way may be to go to a LBS and borrow an Italian
cup and see if it threads into the shell. The threading is the same
as the English threading I think-24 tpi, but the Italian diameter
of the shell opening is marginally larger than the English shell. English cups have 1.37 x 24 on the cup, and Italian have 36 x 24. Italian
cups will not thread-art too large to thread into an English BB shell. English cups will
not catch the threads of an Italian shell.
Italian BB's have a right-hand thread on the drive side,
(tighten clockwise)
English BB's have a left-hand thread on the drive side,
(tighten counterclockwise)

Quick way to find out: look at the threads inside the BB shell. If they are the same direction all the way through, then it's Italian. If they change direction from one side to the other, it's English.

If it's actually made in Italy- it's 99.999% sure to be Italian.

( and the above threads are correct- even D* Alex!! )
