Yes and no. More details would be helpful. What kind of hub? What kinds of bikes?

BMX are generally 120mm spacing (or 110mm, been a while) and MTB spacing is 135mm. Without some axle modification, I would say no.

Errr....I gotta ask...are you trying to put 20" bmx wheels on a mountain bike? Also, if you just want the hubs out, just cut them out with a bolt cutter, unless you want the spokes. But if your planning on building up the hubs into different rims, without new spokes, the rim diameter and hub flange diameter may be, and probably are, different so the spoke lengths will not be correct. Could you give us some more detail on what exactly you are doing here? What's your plan? I'm sure we'd all love to help you out.

Here's what you need-just use your existing mtn.bike wheel and put this on:

I did it to my old MTN frame last year, but it did cost me a few buck for a couple parts: chain, 32T ring, ring bolts for my old cranks (LX 5-arm), Singleator, and the Gusset conversion kit that freeranger linked to. Everything else was reused.

Your BMX hubs probably won't fit. Even if they did, it would too much to build a new wheelset. Better (and prolly cheaper) to reuse the MTN wheels. Try sheldonbrown.com for an idea of what's involved with hubs. You can PM me and I can tell you what I did for mine.

That conversion kit link looks like a GREAT deal... only $20 for spacers that will allow you to securely fit a single cog on a mountain bike cassette hub.

You need to give more info on what you want to do if you really want to install a new hub. This is a major repair task and you'll need to know how to build wheels. You'll need a truing stand, a spoke wrench, and possibly a couple of cone wrenches if you need to respace the axle (which will certainly be the case if you move a 120 mm BMX hub to a mountain bike with 135 mm dropouts). You'll probably need new spokes as well since the required spoke length depends quite precisely on the rim and hub size. Furthermore, did you check that the replacement hub takes the same number of spokes as the old one???

Replacing a hub means rebuilding a wheel. Building a wheel requires specific skills, specific tools, and taking into account many compatibility details when selecting the rim, spokes, and hub. It's not going to work if you're impatient. Better to convert the existing MTB hub to SS, and save yourself a lot of time and money.
