wobbly front tire

what are the possible causes of a wobbly front tire when decending a hill at over 40 mph? Occassionally my bike will do this and scare me to death. Spokes seem tight and front tire is securely fastened.

You've had a run-in with "shimmy", and dang is it scary Here's Sheldon Brown's explanation, with a link to a longer article on it: http://sheldonbrown.com/gloss_sa-o.html#shimmy
