creaking
hey everyone,
i did a search on the topic but nothing seemed to directly address it, so here goes...
yesterday during my ride i noticed an intermittent creaking sound coming from the (threaded) headset/stem/fork area of my bike (a 99 gt hardtail with rockshox jett fork). at first i figured that it was something coming from the drivetrain, but it persisted even while freewheeling. also, it only occurred while on the trails, and was silent on the pavement in the parking lot. it did rain quite a bit in the morning before i rode so it was a fairly wet ride, and the bike was hosed off afterwards. any ideas?
thx

Ideas, yes, always, I'm full of them!!! The front wheel may have been in crooked or the skewer just not tight enough. The headset may be just a little loose. Free up the stem from the steerer tube and tighten the top cap bolt about 1/16 of a turn (that would be clockwise). Tighten the stem and ride the bike and see if that's it. You can turn the bolt back to the original position if that doesn't solve the creaking. Check the stem handle bar bolts. Let us know how you've made out. P.
