I'm looking for any information on this Specialized Allez frame that I am considering for purchase. Sorry for the horrible cell phone picture. Here is what I can tell by looking at it:

- Black Cr-Mo frame with yellow decals
- Aluminum forks
- Campy components that are dated in 1998
- Serial number on bottom bracket is PL305584

Questions about this bike:

- What is a ballpark estimate for the value of this frame?
- Are Cr-Mo Allez frames considered good quality?
- Can you change out the headset to threadless?
- What is the bottom bracket threading?

I believe I had the same bike. Does the black paint have like metallic flakes in it (sparkles)? If so it is an early 90's (mine was 93).

As for frame price, my dad sold the complete bike w/ campy for about $200 (which I thought was a steal).
The bike was okay. Not as stiff or responsive as the Klein I got later, but it was a good starting bike.

Thanks for the reply. It is a straight up black frame. No flakes. I'm pretty sure it was made in the late '90s. It seemed really light for a Cr-Mo frame. I guess the only way to judge if it is a nice ride is to build it up with components I have on hand and try it out.

It is actually a Specialized, but I was able to follow another link on that website (https://www.velo-retro.com/tline.html) to date the Campy componenets and it is indeed a 1998.

1. around $200 or so seems good. that's going by ebay pricing, tho. you might be able to get a better deal if you haggle.

I have a bike with that same frame, pretty sure I got it circa 1993. My brother-in-law managed a bike store and built it up for me, real mix of parts on it.

I just asked my friend how much he wanted for it and he said it's free!!! I do look after his animals when they are gone, so that may have something to do with it. I'll post better pictures of it when I get it home. Now I have to start putting my 105 group on it, get a triple crank, and maybe replace the aluminum forks. I'll see how it rides first. I'm not looking for anything too fancy, just a nice ride and not too heavy.

Good deal on the freebie. I hope the components are in good working order so you don't have to put alot of money into it. It should be a good ride!
