Connex link with Shimano IG31?

Connex link with Shimano IG31?
Hi guys,
I have a Shimano IG31 chain and went to my LBS today to get a 8-spd SRAM Powerlink for it, but they were out of them and handed me an 8-spd, 6.8mm Connex Link instead, telling me that it would also work. I understand the Powerlink to be 7.1mm, which I believe is the same as my chain, and I wanted to get an opinion here before I try it (I have a 7-spd cassette BTW.)
Will it work or should I take it back?
